4 out of 5 stars I wasn't excited about a new Bond game, but this one delivers...   January 3, 2009
So I assumed this would be a quick attempt to cash in on Bond once again. I've seen a new Bond game emerge every few years and with the exception of Goldeneye, they have been pretty mediocre. Solace is a very good game. It FEELS like a Bond game should. You never once forget that you are the coolest spy that ever lived while playing Solace, and for me, that's how it should be. If you like Call Of Duty play mechanics wrapped around the world of a spy, this is your game. The designers also took advantage of the XBox 360 in the graphics department. Solace doesn't look rushed. The environments are lush and beautifully realized. The weapons are cool and the audio is film quality. I rented this game, but now that I am done with Call Of Duty: World At War, I may buy it. Sure, at its heart it's just another first person shooter, but it's cool enough to own a spot next to the best.

4 out of 5 stars Unlike the movies, this game is very short.   January 1, 2009
I ended with "thats it"? I knew the game was almost over at the last stage since I've seen the movie but wow. I wasnt even sitting though the whole game I just played when I wanted and beat it in a day. Good graphics but short.
The new theme song was better than both movies themes put together.

4 out of 5 stars Quantum of Solace   December 28, 2008

I loved this game and its Story line which was a combination of "Casino Royale" and the latest film "Quantum of Solace. Graphically it is very good. Explosions are phenomenal and the cut scenes are very cinematic and seldom require a "skip it". Weapons all produce a great sound (especially the silencer) and automatic weapons can be set to single round or full auto. The camera views are phenomenal and the weapon control is smooth, matching most other First Person Shooters control schemes. This makes it easy to use and doesn't require hours of miscues and manual reading to figure out what you are doing wrong. No searching for health packs- as James needs to take cover or retreat from a danger zone to quickly rejuvenate. Bond music drives the theme from beginning to end and is perfect.
On the downside
The game is painfully linear. It presents a huge and beautifully rendered world which you can see, but not traverse. Frustration abounds if you don't follow the ill defined course. The "fight" control is the only cumbersome "weapon" in James' arsenal and requires use of the right thumb stick and an X,Y, A or B button at the right time to execute. I found James often being executed until I figured out this control.

4 out of 5 stars 007 now in HD format   December 27, 2008

The James Bond franchise has produced some memorable (Golden Eye) and not-so-memorable (From Russia with Love) video games. The transition to an HD format is a big boost for Bond role-players out there.

The game progression actually follows both Daniel Craig films with selected portions from Casino Royale being played as flashbacks. A very good idea as there was no licensed game on the previous film.

The gameplay is fairly standard FPS. Running and gunning, lobbing grenades, taking cover, sniping, and tactical hand-to-hand takedowns. Decent stuff on it's own but a bit more fun doing it as 007.

Cut-scenes are pretty well done and the game offers top notch voice talent from the movie to make it that more a desirable HD product. A pretty solid game to play overall.
