The Star Wars saga will continue in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, a videogame developed by LucasArts, which casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The expansive story, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.

As its name implies, The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force by taking full advantage of newly developed technologies that will be seen and experienced for the first time: Digital Molecular Matter (DMM), by Pixelux Entertainment, and euphoria by NaturalMotion Ltd. Paired with the powerful Havok Physics system. DMM incorporates the physical properties of anything in the environment so that everything reacts exactly like it should - wood breaks like wood, glass shatters like glass, plants on the planet Felucia bend like plants on the planet Felucia would, and more. Meanwhile, as a revolutionary behavioral-simulation engine, euphoria enables interactive characters to move, act and even think like actual human beings, adapting their behavior on the fly and resulting in a different payoff every single time.

Game Features:
  • During the period between Episodes III and IV, players hunt Jedi in the role of Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice.
  • Unleash and upgrade the Secret Apprentice's four core Force powers - Force push, grip, repulse and lightning - throughout the course of the game, and combine them for ultra-destructive, never-before-seen combos.
  • Examples of unleashing the Force in ways never thought possible:
    • The Secret Apprentice won't just Force push enemies into walls - he'll Force push enemies through walls.
    • The Secret Apprentice won't just Force grip foes to throw them aside - he'll Force grip them in midair, zap them with lightning, then drop them to the ground to explode like a bomb.
  • In addition to new adversaries created just for the game, such as fugitive Jedi and Force-sensitive Felucians, players will also confront and associate with familiar face s from the Star Wars films, including Darth Vader.
  • Visit locations such as Episode III's Wookiee homeworld Kashyyyk and the floral Felucia, the junk planet Raxus Prime, plus an Imperial TIE fighter construction facility.
  • The Force Unleashed debuts Digital Molecular Matter from Pixelux and euphoria behavioral simulation from NaturalMotion Ltd.
  • LucasArts is preparing an unprecedented promotional effort around the launch of The Force Unleashed, encompassing a full line of toys and game-based action figures from Hasbro, as well as a full publishing program from Dark Horse, Del Rey and Palace Press.

3 out of 5 stars Fun, but lacks... well, a lot.   December 31, 2008
I am a relatively new gamer, and this was one of the first games I bought. Awesome God Like Powers? Lightsabers? The Ability to chuck stormtroopers around like dolls? I was so there.

I beat the game in approximately 8 hours (not non-stop). I was hoping for something that I could continue to play for hours, explore some fun worlds, and then finally win. The game play was fun, electrocuting your enemies is always enjoyable, and tossing them off the death star was pretty much just awesome. But the boss battles were infinitely annoying. The use of the specific buttons to finally finish the dang things, instead of just wailing on the boss until he died was frustrating.

All in all, a fun game, but I wouldn't pay full price for it, and I'm kinda glad I didn't.

3 out of 5 stars Okay, but monotanous   December 28, 2008
Very good story line and some great effects. You start the game with some of the cooler force abilities and are thrown straight into the action.

However, the only thing that changes throughout the game is your abilities and the story line. The gameplay itself becomes bland and repetitious after about the 3rd or 4th mission.

5 out of 5 stars Star Wars Fun   December 26, 2008
Designated best game ever by 13 year old Star Wars fan. Didn't know we could get for PS2 until checked online.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best video games in a long time.   December 16, 2008
When I first had the chance to play this game, I was blown away. After a whole childhood of watching Starwars movies, I finally had a chance to play as a Jedi the way I always wanted to.
Lucasarts has had mixed attempts at trying to make forcepowers in videogames, but this one gets it spot on. You can pick people up with the force, and the flail trying to grab at objects to stop you from moving them around. You can rip tie fighters out of the air. When you throw objects around, they break. Its wondrous to watch in many ways.
I definately recondend this game. It gave alot more then I expected, expecially since the story and quality voice acting give the game pathos far beyond the fun of throwing people around with the force.

4 out of 5 stars A Long, Long Time Ago....but a Short, Short Game   December 9, 2008
"The Force Unleashed" is a linear action PS2 game that is entertaining and is overall enjoyable. Set between the two trilogies, the main character, a secret apprentice studying under Darth Vader, is a pawn in the internal battle between Vader and the Emperor and his actions will shape the Star Wars universe. The graphics are excellent and the plot, if not gripping, is solid. The secondary characters are well fleshed out and the soundtrack and score are pleasant. But there are problems. The gameplay is limited and the controls and camerawork need improvement. The game is too linear and does not allow the player that much freedom to explore the Star Wars universe. The chief problem is how quickly the game can be played. This game ca be beaten in 10-12 hours (and that is a conservative estimate). This seems odd to say the least especially in this day and age and is the chief flaw of the game.
